If you want a little kick to your fall treats, try these pumpkin beer cupcakes.
When October rolls around, it’s almost impossible to stay away from the talk about Oktoberfest. And for beer lovers, who would want to? It’s a beer lover’s mecca. Although I am not necessarily a beer lover, I have come to appreciate what beer and certain wine & spirits do in cooking and baking. They can impart such depth of flavor, and these pumpkin beer cupcakes are no exception. These treats are all the good things about fall punctuated with the complex aroma and flavor of a lively ale.
Now, I feel like I should confess something. For my pumpkin beer cupcakes, I don’t always use an actual pumpkin beer. I know, it’s inexcusable. BUT, I have experimented with different beers in this recipe along the way, and my favorites aren’t always the pumpkin ales. I say all of that to tell you it’s ok to experiment with whatever beer gives you the flavor profile you’re looking for. Pumpkin beer cupcakes are all about the marriage of our favorite pumpkin treats and many folks’ favorite alcohol. So as long as we’ve got pumpkin, the right spices, and beer in the mix, I think we can reasonably call the end result a pumpkin beer cupcake. Right? Ok good. Glad we’re all on the same page.
As with many beer cupcakes, you cannot over mix this batter. If so, the cupcakes will turn out a bit bready and tough. Only mix all the ingredients enough to combine, nothing more. This insures the wonderful flavor of the beer is the highlight instead of the yeast being the star of the show. My absolute favorite frosting for the pumpkin beer cupcakes is, of course, my pumpkin buttercream that I introduced on the blog yesterday. It really is a perfect marriage of flavor and texture. If you make them, I hope you find them just as scrumptious as I do!
